That's true, but you can see the difference between the two when Goku shows the different forms to Fat Boo and Bobbidi, and he was relaxed for the most part.

The manga seems to want to imply almost that since Gohan can't get as angry as before he can't get into his power. A rather BS point because Gohan casually transformed at the ROSAT. But everything from appearance to chapters before and after pretty put Gohan dead on SSJ and for whatever reason he isn't you can just chalk up to AT's terrible writing. Gohan didn't seem to like how it made him act. Gohan blamed his rage and cockiness for Goku getting killed at the Cell games. When Goku tells him to go all out on Boo's shell, and "get angry like he did against Cell", he said he could never do that again.

I don't think Toriyama personally supervised the animation process in BOG.

Chrome Favourite Manga One Punch Man	Even Neko Majin was written YEARS after Dragon Ball ended. I know nowadays Toriyama isn't super-consistent with the SSJ/SSJ2 differences, and him admitting that his memories of SSJ2 became blurred is probably partially to blame for that. But when we're talking the original manga, back when SSJ2 was something brand-new and at the forefront of Toriyama's story and mind... it's extremely consistent in how it's visually portrayed.

Internet Explorer-64 bit / Google Chrome	SSj looks similar to the base form of a saiyan but just with thick, spiky, smooth hair and SSj2 has longer, thin, spikier, rigid hair with paler skin, bigger pupils, buffed up muscles, fierce eyes and the characteristics are a bit more violent, aggressive, and barbaric
